3 Days in Palanga

Day 1

Classic Promenade & Beach Vibes

Basanavicius Street

Morning. Start your Palanga journey by walking down the iconic J. Basanavicius Street, the town's central artery lined with historic architecture and bustling cafes. Grab a coffee and observe the morning wake-up of the resort before heading straight toward the sea. You will eventually arrive at the majestic Palanga Pier, which extends deep into the Baltic Sea and serves as the perfect spot for a morning stroll. After breathing in the salty air, walk back toward the sand to spend an hour on the pristine Palanga Beach. Aim to arrive early to secure a comfortable spot near the dunes before the crowds descend for the afternoon.

Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

Afternoon. After a morning by the water, head inland to explore the cultural heart of the town. Visit the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, a stunning neo-Gothic structure with red bricks that dominate the skyline. Spend some time admiring the interior before walking a few blocks to the Kurhaus of Palanga, a building that represents the historical leisure culture of the resort. These sites are centrally located and provide a great contrast to the beach scene. Wrap up your afternoon by wandering through the nearby streets to see the traditional wooden villas that define the town's unique architectural heritage.

Basanavicius Street

Evening. As the sun begins to dip, head toward the vibrant center for an evening of entertainment. Dine at a restaurant on the main strip to enjoy the lively atmosphere, perhaps opting for fresh Baltic fish. Afterward, take a leisurely evening walk to see the illuminated facade of the Kurhaus. If you feel energetic, return to the beach area to watch the sunset from the dunes, which is a quintessential Palanga experience. End your night with a drink at one of the many outdoor bars that line the promenade.

Day 2

Nature, Art, and Amber

Birute Park

Morning. Dedicate your second morning to the lush greenery of Birute Park, arguably the most beautiful park in Lithuania. Designed by the famous landscape architect Édouard François André, it offers winding paths, serene ponds, and perfectly manicured flower beds. Within the park, visit the Amber Museum, housed in the opulent Tiškevičiai Palace, which displays an incredible collection of Baltic gold artifacts. Spend at least two hours here to fully appreciate the intricate carvings and prehistoric inclusions. Afterward, take a peaceful walk toward the park's exit to find a quiet place for a light snack.

Afternoon. Continue your exploration of the arts by visiting the Antanas Moncys House Museum, which showcases the works of the renowned Lithuanian sculptor. It is a smaller, more intimate space that offers a deeper look into the local creative spirit. From there, take a short stroll to the Palanga Sculpture Park, where you can walk among open-air installations set against a forest backdrop. This area is much quieter than the main beach, offering a contemplative space to enjoy the outdoors. If you enjoy photography, the interplay of light and shadow among the sculptures here is excellent.

Naglis Hill

Evening. For your second evening, head toward the southern edge of the town to explore the quieter side of the resort. Visit Naglis Hill, a historical site that offers a great vantage point for seeing the surrounding pine forests. As twilight falls, make your way back toward the town center for a more upscale dining experience. Choose a restaurant that emphasizes local, seasonal ingredients to round out your cultural immersion. Spend your final evening in this area enjoying the slower pace of life that persists even in a busy resort town.

Day 3

Coastal Exploration & Relaxation

Palanga Beach

Morning. On your final day, venture slightly away from the main town center to explore the coastal trails that lead north toward Kunigiškės. Rent a bicycle to navigate the well-marked paths that cut through the dense pine forests and sand dunes. This is the best way to see the 'wilder' side of the Palanga coastline, where the crowds are significantly thinner. Stop at various viewpoints along the way to take in the vastness of the Baltic Sea. Aim to spend your morning covering a few kilometers of these trails before returning the bike near the town center.

Basanavicius Street

Afternoon. Spend your afternoon indulging in a bit of relaxation at one of the local wellness centers or spas that Palanga is famous for. Many hotels offer day passes that allow you to enjoy saunas, steam rooms, and indoor pools, which is a perfect way to soothe your muscles after a morning of cycling. Once you are refreshed, head to a cafe on the outskirts of the main promenade to enjoy a slow, late lunch. Take your time to write postcards or simply people-watch as the afternoon transition into evening. This is your chance to soak up the local vibe one last time.

Palanga Pier

Evening. For your final evening, return to the area near the Palanga Pier to witness the transition of the sky over the sea. This is the most iconic spot in the city, and seeing it at night provides a completely different perspective than your first visit. Choose a highly-rated restaurant for a celebratory final dinner, perhaps trying a dish you haven't yet sampled. Afterward, take one final walk along the beach, listening to the waves hitting the shore. It is the perfect, quiet way to conclude your three-day escape to the Lithuanian coast.
